Ancient, modern and medieval historical daggers and knives.

A dagger is a double edged knife designed for thrusting. The origin of metal daggers can be traced back to the Bronze Age about 3000 BC. Since ancient times daggers have been used for battle, self protection and as ornaments. Many daggers were designed for the richest and most powerful people as far back as the Egyptian Pharaohs. This is also evident when one looks at medieval and renaissance daggers. However, the dagger is also a symbol of treachery. Many assassinations have been carried out with the use of daggers. The most noted was Julius Caesar.

Dirks are primarily known as a Scottish weapon. This dagger was commonly used in the British Isles and adorn modern Scottish dress even today.

Daggers are still in use for military and tactical personnel today.
