Fixed blade knives for hunting, camping, fishing, diving and various other outdoor pursuits. A fixed blade knife, sometimes called a sheath knife, does not fold or slide, and is typically stronger due to the tang, the extension of the blade into the handle, and lack of moving parts. Fixed blade knives are usually thin – 0.05 to 0.1 inches (1/20" to 1/10") – to improve cutting performance. Some are built thicker to be tough enough to cut through bone. The blades are short (3 to 5 inches) to allow precise control. | ||
